MAD HATTER PAGE 8 COLLEGE ARCHIVES In preparation for the move to the new building, many people may be cleaning out their files. Please do not forget about the Archives. It would be a great loss if valuable historical mat- erials were to be lost or misplaced in the move. Guideline for transferral of files to Archives are as follows: 1. Faculty, staff and departments should forward to the Archives material which is no longer needed for current use. 2. Files should be examined every two or three years for transferral of materials. 3. No paper, photographs, blueprints, etc. should be discarded without prior consideration of their suit- ability for the Archives. 4. Materials which may be discarded: - requests for course information, - acknowledgements and letter of transmittal, - outdated mailing lists, - memos about the physical arrange- ment of meetings, - applications for positions, - notes on interviews with unsuc- cessful applicants. The Archives does not save everything passed on to it. Records are considered to be of permanent value if they are useful for administrative or historical research. Files are kept in acid- free boxes in the same order in which they were received. Findings aids listing the contents of each box are typed up, and these lists serves as indexes to the contents of the Archives. Materials can normally be used in the Archives room, unless it is confiden- tial. Photocopies can be made of most Materials, or, in some instances, the originals can be borrowed for a short time. All use is with consent of the Archives Librarian. In order to transfer or use material, contact Jean Cockburn, the Archives Librarian, at Winslow local 20. "SMILE CANADA!"
