be! .& oT ae. By David Finley he idea was tossed around last . fall semester that we here at Douglas should try and start a college ice hockey team, and for a while things appeared to be going well. People were showing interest and excitement was building that this idea might become an amazing reality. But sadly, in the last few months interest has hit a bit of a slouch. Well actually, it’s hit more of a brick wall than a slouch. We had 26 people show their initial interest.and in a way sign up. Unfortunately, only about ten of those people (including myself) who originally signed up have recently stated their still standing faith in the idea and their commitment to making it happen. You can’t run a hockey team with eight skaters and two goalies; it just doesn’t happen. So we are looking to you students of Douglas College. Are you willing to pick up the idea and help us run with it? Do you have friends who love to play hockey? Do you have friends who need a team to play for? Do you want to play? The basic plan was to join a men’s beer league and play the season out, in order to see how the team 18 only you can make it happen. ‘(British Columbia Intercollegiate looks. We have also had the idea proposed that we rent some ice time at a rink and play some pickup, these are all options for things that can happen. Some have asked if you need to be great to play. Look, nobody is expecting the next Wayne Gretzky to walk in and be like “where’s the team? I want to play.” The only real requirement is that you have some kind of ice hockey experience, you don’t have to be amazing, and that you have gear of some kind. The goal is still to get the team off the ground and flying, seeing how things go, and hoping things pan out.
