DRAFT FOR CONSULTATION PURPOSES The Performance Appraisal Committee is meeting to design a system which would comply with the letter of understanding in the Collective Agreement. The committee would appreciate any comments you have on the following proposal. TASK The College and the Faculty Association have agreed to develop a system of performance appraisal "for the sole purpose of improving the quality of the learning environment". Ll. ASSUMPTIONS A. The Performance Appraisal Committee has assumed that the system mid. 1s i, lead to the professional growth of the faculty 2. be voluntary 3. be confidential 4, not be used by the College for contract renewal B. The Performance Appraisal Committee has assumed that the College will commit time, money and personnel resources to maintain the performance appraisal system and provide assistance in data collection, data analysis, goal establishment and implementation of development plans. 111. PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL SYSTEM The Performance Appraisal Committee recommends a system that allows the faculty member to choose input from any or all of the following sources: lL. students 2. €olleagues 3... Se1F 4, others The data may be interpreted by the faculty member alone, or he/she may ° request assistance from a colleague or a faculty development co-ordinator. The Performance Appraisal Committee recommends that a faculty development co-ordinator be hired to design, implement and revise the system and its tools, and to be available for assisting the faculty member in selecting the appropriate data collection system, formulating goals and objective, and establishing professional development plans.
