eo Northwest Program Development and Coordination Center Presents ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES TO FACULTY ASSESSMENT A Special Workshop With Dr. Jim Hammons Monday, May 16, 1983 8:30 — 4:30 Tuesday, May 17, 1983 8:30 — 4:30 This workshop is for those who are presently responsible for faculty, those who have been given the task of developing an appraisal system, and those who are currently re-evaluating their appraisal system. The objectives of this workshop are to provide an opportunity for participants to: @ understand how a valid faculty assessment system can significantly influence faculty performance, evaluate their faculty assessment system including their student evaluation form, know the steps in planning and implementing (or revising) a faculty assessment system, be made aware of alternative approaches to evaluating faculty and pros and cons of each, learn how to develop valid criteria, standards, and documentation for evaluating faculty, become familiar with the common myths and misconceptions related to student evaluation of faculty, become skilled in selection and use of student evaluation forms, e develop skills in conducting an appraisal interview and writing an effective appraisal report, e become familiar with legal requirements of performance appraisal. The workshop will include presentations by workshop leaders, structured discussion sessions, and supervised practice in developing various parts of a faculty evaluation system.
