January 21, 2004 From The Editor Editor’s Note Well folks, as you read this issue of the Other Press most of our staff will be zipping up our coats in sunny St. John’s, New Foundland. We have caught the red eye out and will spend the next week at the Canadian University Press National Annual Conference. Between trips to the local bars in search of screech, we will be attending various lectures on how to make our paper better, for you, the reader. Don’t you feel special now? You are probably wondering how the paper could get any better?—Giveaways, a fun new section, paparazzi...oh and hard hitting journalism. Yes, we're the tops, we know. But we just can't stop at the top. Over the top is more the style of the Other Press. In the next year, brace yourself for the amazement we will bring you. Though some of our cast and characters have changed, and no doubt will continue to change, isn’t it remarkable how we never miss a beat? That's what you call excellence and sometimes, tak- ing one for the team...ouch. I think, you, the readers, are starting to come around. I have seen you lurking around the door. Submissions are starting to arrive. And shockingly, I have seen the paper being read instead of used as a cover from the rain in the smoke pit. Oh readers...we have so much in common, you and I. We are both students and well, I guess that’s all I really know for sure but I bet there’s more. Enough about how great you and me are ‘and enough about how great our paper is. Please take time to read every inch of this issue. People are pouring their hearts out people, work with us here. I’ll be thinking about how I am missing my lab classes and daily humdrums of life while I am whisked across Canada. I can’t wait till the layover for four hours in the Halifax airport, now that really is going to be stellar.
