Editorial By Adam Honsinger Welcome to the dog days of summer and the July issue of the Other Press. The sum- mer semester is in full crawl, the weather is fine, and, well, it’s pretty quiet around the hallowed halls of Douglas College. There are times when one could almost hear a ballpoint pen drop. The office of the Other Press is no excep- tion, outside of the one or two crazy weeks on either side of copy deadlines. Otherwise, the quiet din and hum of abeyant computers reflects the slow and disparate grind of the summer semester. It is a good time to indulge and enjoy the benefits of academia without the photocopier line-ups in the library, full computer labs, and other pressures relative to the fall and winter semesters. It is a time to be good to yourself, slow down and appreciate the flavours of the season. It is a good time to kick back and read your student paper. As you have no doubt noticed, the cover of this issue is somewhat provocative, indeed it may be the very reason you bothered to pick the paper up. And | am unashamed to admit that the graphic was designed to elicit your attention, but | assure you that to warrant such ruthless tactics we have troubled our- selves to provide copy on the subject in a mature and intelligent manner. It is not our intention to shock or offend, but to engage and stimulate the senses from the languor of the season. | hope the July issue of the Other Press reflects our monthly endeavour to improve each issue, so that by September, we will have ironed out the quirks and quarks, and we will be primed for the not so lackadaisical nature of the fall semester.
