Memorial Fund to honor work of Barry Leach The challenges to our environment around the world are challenges to our human spirit. These challenges demand more than a technical response—they demand a change in our belief systems, our attitudes. Dr. Barry Leach An internationally recognized environmentalist and humanitarian, Barry Leach was a master teacher and a historian of considerable reputation. He had a distinguished career at Douglas College, where he was Director of Enviromental and International Studies, and more recently as an instructor at Kwantlen University College. Says Douglas College friend and colleague Chris Johnson, “He was a brilliant teacher. He could read a telephone book in the classroom and make it come alive.” Barry lived his life as actively as he taught his students. A gifted writer and artist, he was also a driving force in the establishment of a number of Lower Mainland parks. Later, he became active in the Trans Himalayan Aid Society and other groups that reclaim land and settle people in India and Tibet. Barry believed that education and training are essential to solving our environmental problems. To honor his work, Kwantlen is establishing the Dr. Barry Leach Endowment Fund to assist those pursuing studies in environmental protection, history or international relations. You may already be contributing to a fund in Barry’s memory, but if you would like information about this new endowment, please contact Chris Johnson at local 5041. If you would like to make a donation directly, please send a cheque marked “Dr. Barry Leach Endowment” to: The Development Office, Kwantlen University College, P.O.
