President’s Report Highlights - October Between September 22-25 I chaired a meeting of the ACCC Board of Directors in Quebec City. The ACCC is working on developing a response and commentary to the “Axworthy Paper” - “Improving Social Security in Canada”. This paper is of major significance and presages major shifts in the level, and possibly the nature, of federal support of tertiary and higher education across the country. On September 29, I met with Peter Jones of the University College of the Fraser Valley, and Gerry Kilcup of Kwantlen College, to discuss joint plans and collaboration. An immediate product of our meeting was an agreement to have a joint meeting with the University of Fraser Valley personnel to discuss collaboration between their admission development, and our Thomas Haney Centre. On October 1, I had the honor of making closing remarks at the Inclusive Curriculum Conference in Vancouver. This conference was sponsored by Douglas College and the University College of the Fraser Valley, and included speakers from across North America, and attendees from Washington, Alberta and British Columbia. On October 19, the annual Quantum Leaps program was held at Douglas College. This involves young women from secondary schools attending a session in which they could explore career opportunities in non-traditional areas.
