Mad Hatter Page 5 Modern Times The famous, enlightening and classic Charlie Chaplin film "Modern Times" will be presented by the Douglas College Humanities Institute at the New Westminster campus, 12:00 noon on Thursday, February 21. The absurd look at modern times from the 1920's is just the second ina series of existential films spon- sored by the Institute in an effort to present the humanities as an integral part of society. Under the guidance of philosophy instructor Dr. Jim Davies, the — Humanities Institute will also be showing a number of other films this spring. Another feature is the por- trayal of principles and politics during the Indonesian revolution in the film "The Year of Living Danger- ously". Both "Modern Times" and "The Year of Living Dangerously" will be shown in the large lecture theatre, room 2201 at 12:00 p.m. The Institue will also be presenting special speakers on topics ranging from the history of the British Columbian penitentiary (February 28/ Academy Dancers will be performing excerpts from the classics at 12:30, February 14 as part of the Douglas College series, Noon at New West. Featured will be solos from the ballets 'Cappellia', ‘Sleeping Beauty} and ‘Swan Lake', as well as works created by Dolores Kirkwood especially for the dancers. The Kirkwood Academy is rapidly gaining ground as one of the finest ballet troupes in the country with some of the best dancers in Canadian and international competitions. The Valentine's Douglas College Day performance at will present Lydia Green, a recent candidate for the coveted Adeline Genie Awards in London; Gail Stefonek, the B.C. Senior Ballet Champion; Camilla Fishwich, the winner of many festi- vals and Owen Taylor, recipient of Senior Stage at the B.C. Arts Festival finals. The Kirkwood Academy Dancers will be presenting their Valentine's Day special performance in the perfor- mance theatre.
