Ganucks Corner Darren Paterson, Sports Editor Well, here we are, still tentatively getting ready for the HL regular season. And since nobody knows what’s oing on with the CBA, I guess we'll just have to con- inue as if everything was hunky-dory. And with that ttitude, here are some musings on the Canucks view f things. First off, I'd like to look at how the Canucks have fared in the World Cup so far. With the semifinal atchups set as I write this article, the Canuck con- ingent is down to three lonely players. Marek Malik, ami Salo, and Jarko Ruutu are the only remaining tal- nts from what started as a very large contribution of layers. What’s sort of strange is the poor showing hat Naslund, Ohlund, and the Sedin twins had in the ournament. All right, to their credit, the Sedins didn’t lay, but still, Naslund had a shockingly quiet tourna- ent despite being paired with some pretty freaking ood linemates in Forsberg and Zetterberg. And hlund looked like he was trying to be Ed Jovanovski y pinching in from the point all the time. The only problem was he wasn’t effective like Jovo...of course Jovo wasn’t too effective himself, what with getting injured in the first game of the round robin. And that doesn’t bode well for his involvement in the upcoming training camp either. Although, hope- fully the other guys can bring a little extra jump to camp this year. Personally, I expect the Sedins to show something this time around despite not playing in the World Cup. Just the experience of being there and practicing with players of Forsberg’s calibre should really show some dividends. But hey! Don’t take my word for it. The Canucks on-ice workouts are free to the public, so get your butt down to Burnaby 8-Rinks and check out this year’s edition of your favorite sports team. Veterans are scheduled to begin practicing on Sept 18 and daily schedules will be available soon. For more informa- tion check out , and T’ll see you there. Classifieds Students advertise for free!
