Ney aia; CENTRE FOR INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION HHGHER COLLEGES OF TECHNOLOGY-UNITED ARAB EMIRATES 1. THE PROJECT Educansult Limited has been commissioned to plan, develop and staff a new system of Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates. Five small campuses will open in September 1988. Separate male and female campuses will be situated in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and the Ras al-Khaimah region. Foundation year programs will be offered in: Electri- cal/Electronics/ Microcomputer Technology; Civil Technology; General Business; and Office Sys- tems and Procedures. The initial enrollments in 1988 will be modest at approximately 100 students per campus. 2, THE ASSIGNMENTS The total staff in 1988 is ex- pected to number about 120, of whom approximately 1/3 will be experienced Canadians - preferab- ly with Ontario College experience. The positions vary in nature but include the following: Campus Directors; Academic Department Heads (Business, Technology, Academic Studies); Academic Program Super- visors: (Electrical / Electronics/Microcom- puter Technology, Civil Engineering, Gencral Business; and Office Systems and Procedures); Non-Academic Department Heads: (Support Services); Non-Academic Supervisor: (Purchasing and Accounting, Building and Grounds, Student Learning Centres, Counselling & Student Liaison, Curriculum Rk ES Development, Registration & Stu- dent Records, Personnel and Staff Development; Teachings Instructors; Teaching Technicians: (En- gineering and Computer Labs and Learning Centres); Central Office Staff: (Director, Central Services, Manager, Central Information Services, Manager, Central Personnel Ser- vices, Manager, Central Program and Curriculum SErvices, Manager, Planning and Budgets). 3. THE ITEM Although shorter terms will be arranged, in the main, the posts will be for two years beginning in 1988. Two year terms offer both teaching continuity and sig- nificant potential for Canadian income tax breaks. 4, COMPENSATION The government of the UAE in- tends to develop a world-class system of Higher Colleges and believes that a cadre of qualified and experienced Canadians should be recruited to help to en- sure that objective is achieved. As a consequence, gencrous com- pensation packages have been established which include al- lowances and bonuses in addition to base salaries that are comparable to Ontario salaries. 5.
