INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE /JULY 17, 1990 Douglas College’s loss — Vancouver Community College’s gain crowd of well wishers gathered on the balcony of the Registrar’s Office on Friday, July 6 to say farewell to Penny Gallagher, Douglas College’s former Assistant to the Registrar. Gallagher will be joining the team at Vancouver Com- munity College, King Edward Campus, as their new Registrar. In order to keep the party a surprise, her clever co-workers told Gallagher they were having a Penny Gallagher and a colleague . “decade party" to celebrate the birthdays of Trish Angus — soon to be forty, Myrna Wing — fifty, and Kathy Rai and Debbie Perrin who both turned thirty recently. Gallagher even brought the birthday group special "decade" balloons to commemorate before Margaret Murray and Mla Gordon. Penny Gallagher. realizing the party was actually in her honour. Between bites, drinks and jokes, Gallagher’s workmates reminisced about the past and wished her well in her future en- deavours. Bursar Peter Greenwood and Registrar Trish Angus. "It’s a great loss, a sad day,” said Myrna Wing, Admissions. “Penny did a good job. She was easy to work with and always took care of problems quickly and efficiently." "We want to wish Penny very good fortune," said Trish Angus, Registrar. The consensus amongst the group was that replacing Gal- lagher would not be an easy task. "We're all going to miss her,” said Jan Basaraba, Graduation Secretary. "She’s excellent to work with. The person who’s going to replace Penny will have to be extra special, just like she is." As Gallagher tidied up her of- fice for the last time, she was some- what sentimental at the thought of leaving Douglas College and her friends. Yvonne Mostert and Peter Greenwood. Remembering when she joined the College two years ago, Gallagher said "Time went by too fast. It doesn’t feel like I’ve been here long enough.
