i t must be August, the faculty are returning....welcome back! And while we’re on the topic of wel coming back people, ROSE WILSON, formerly from the Personnel Office, returns from a six-month maternity leave, "slim and trim." Rose, who named her baby boy Cole, will be working part- time in the Community Programs and Services Music Conservatory. Marriages! JAN BASARABA from the Registrar’s Office tied the knot without telling anyone at Douglas College. She’s now JAN SMITH, which is a heck of lot easier to spell. Former Douglas College employee JULIE BEAUCAIRE exchanged vows on August 10 in Nepean, Ontario. Con- gratulations to both of them and their new husbands. Computing technician DARRYL KARLEEN will take the plunge on August 24, just seven days after his 24th birthday. Good luck and best wishes from all of us who have had a sick com- puter nursed back to health under your skilful hands. A dress code for administrators? What will Personnel think of next? Apparently, some male administrators have been reporting to work over the summer months, not wearing the “ex- pected” tie, jacket and slacks and that has PETER SANDERSON contemplating a year-round dress code. Asked if he thought senior adminstration would ap- prove the dress code, Peter would only say: “Are you kidding? Have you seen how the deans are clad?” Peter, you’re a nice guy, but | wouldn’t have you pick out my wardrobe, even if you were the last tailor on earth. Travel! Speaking of great places to buy a wardrobe, Co-op coordinator for Busi- ness and Commerce, MARIAN HILL, is off to Hong Kong for a 10-day World Co-op Conference. SUSAN CHONG travels upstairs to the fourth floor north as the Co-op assis- tant in the Business Department. Her new digs are in room 4347 and her local remains 5100. Author! Author! By popular demand, Community So- cial Service Worker faculty member ia by Carillon INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / August 20, 1991 BOB SHEBIB will be putting out the second edition of his book, Counselling Skills for Social Service Workers. It will be published in mid-September. Bob has been working on the changes and additions to the second edition for more than a year. One of Douglas College’s famous authors, DALE ZIEROTH, will soon be publishing another book of poetry, “The Weight of My Raggedy Skin.” Watch the Inside for details on the book- launching party. Farewell! Will we ever feel secure again? One of Douglas College’s finest, security guard SANDY MCDONALD, is leaving us to enroll at BCIT. He will be taking the Geographic Information Systems program...good luck, Sandy! Winning gold! Congratulations to TIM FRICK, who coached the Canadian women’s basket- ball team to a gold medal at the World Wheelchair Games, which ran July 27- August 1 in England. By winning the four-team tournament, with a 45-24 decision over Germany in the final, Tim and his team also qualified for the 1992 Paralympics in Barcelona. 70th anniversary lf Douglas College gave out awards to faculty who embody what a com- munity college is all about, TATSUO HOSHINA surely would be one of the first honoured. Tatsuo is not only a great music in- structor, he has been the conductor of the Douglas College Choral Society since its inception ten years ago. The Christmas and Spring concerts have provided some of the best entertain- ment Douglas College has presented and this year promises to be even bet- ter. Congratulations on your 10th anniversary and long may you make beautiful music. Moving up! On a final note, the overhaul of labour relations at Douglas College took a small step for MARIAN EXMANN and a giant step for employer/employee harmony. Marian is the new permanent Personnel and Labour Relations Officer for Douglas College. That’s great news for everyonc at Douglas College as Marian is respected by all...congratulations! @
