COLLEGE EXHIBITION ADVISORY COMMITTEE Some time ago, the College received a generous Rotary Club donation to furnish the Theatre Foyer with equipment needed to mount artistic exhibitions. As the Community Programmer attached to the Academic Division, and running courses in conjunction with the Emily Carr College of Art and Design, I was asked by Jim Doerr, Dean of Community Programs & Services to establish some process and guidelines for the use of this and other College space which might be suitable for artistic exhibitions. After a year's work, I am happy to report that Douglas College Exhibition Advisory Committee has been formalized, with both external representatives of the arts communities in our Region, and internal representatives from the College Faculty and staff. The Committee members are: David Low, Artist, member of the New Westminster Arts Council Rowena Morrell, Burnaby artist, and member of the New Westminster Arts Council Lenore Peyton, Director, Place des Arts, Coquitlam Gillian Elliott,Artist, Member of the Port Coquitlam Arts Council Alan McMillan, Anthropology Pat Thomasson, Logistic Lillian Zimmerman, Community Programs and Services The Committee has advised us that Exhibitions should range widely including painting, pottery, sculpture, fabric arts, etc. It also advises that we seek a balance in Exhibitions between established professionals and amateur artists. They also have advised that someone to co-ordinate exhibitions on a systematic basis would be helpful. This person will be a new member of the Committee, Ms. Sandra Jane Shaw. Sandra is a practising artist with a Master's Degree in Fine Arts, who is a New Westminster resident. She started her career as a Fine Arts student at Douglas, taking courses from Ewen McAslan. Sandra is currently working on a special Exhibition related thematically to the Theatre Department's forthcoming "The Curse of the Werewolf", which will have paintings by a local artist, currently exhibiting at Place des Arts. In addition, Sandra is encouraging local young artists in high schools in the College Region to submit work on the Werewolf theme - very scary - watch for it in the Theatre Foyer!
