V3L 5B2. funds are earmarked for the pur- chase of Asian study materials. “The donation will help the Douglas College library purchase books and literature relating to Asian studies,” says Greg Sprung, Assistant Manager and Vice Presi- dent of the Columbia Street branch of the Hong Kong Bank of Canada. “Hopefully, it will help the Col- lege expand its library materials in an area where we have a strong in- terest ourselves.” Joan Wenman, Chief Librarian at Douglas College, says the library can put the money to good use. “Three thousand dollars is a sig- nificant amount of money, and we appreciate very much the oppor- tunity to expand and strengthen our collection in this area,” says Wenman. Wenman says the donation will help to support and expand the Asian curriculum and the teaching function of the College. “It will strengthen our existing collection in three significant areas — Asian languages, Chinese and Japanese history, and business management. “Japanese business practices are studied a great deal, so we will also strengthen our business collec- tion,” she adds. Local businesses who have con- tact with the Pacific Rim may benefit as well. “Since the focus of the donation is on continued and expanding contact with Pacific Rim countries, we will be getting some general material that might be of in- terest to the local business com- munity,” says Wenman. @ $- exis FOUNCAtION Senior Personnel Assistant Kris Remmen recently celebrated her 40th birthday.
