Whether it was the comedic banter of Tegan & Sara, the mind altering environment known as the Flaming Lips concert or the Monday night Vancouver dance party that was Matt & Kim, it seemed there was something for everyone. But the good times are still going strong as we drive into October. Here are a couple shows worth checking out, assuming you haven’t already depleted your entertainment funds. Japandroids (October 9") FFO: No Age, Girl, Pains of Being Pure at Heart Why You Should Care (WYSC): This power duo originally from Vancouver won’t be able to make a new album until next year, but their loss of studio time because of extensive touring is your gain. Despite only being a band of two, they overcompensate by projecting dangerously large quantities of contemporary noise to every member of the audience. Broken Social Scene (October 13/14") For Fans Of: chaotic, calculated rock WYSC: Hot off their Polaris short list nomination, this indie music orchestra are perhaps best known for their live ensemble performances that in the past have included the likes of Emily Haines, Feist and Jason Collett. Matt Costa (October 19) FFO: feel good albums WYSC: Seriously? Did you even see the ‘Mr.Pitiful’ music video? Mumford and Sons (October 23") FFO: Fleet Foxes, Blitzen Trapper WYSC: Blissful harmonies accompanied by intervals of banjo rock helped these guys explode onto the music scene over the last year with their album ‘Sigh No More’, and they deserve every bit of praise they’re receiving. Even if you don’t know who they are, you’ve likely heard one of their catchy jingles on the radio. You could say writing about them in this list is a bit of a cocktease though, considering tickets sold out almost as soon as they went on sale. She & Him (October 24") FFO: sunny summer afternoons WYSC: Hot on the trail of the Mumford & Sons concert comes probably one of the most highly anticipated shows happening in October, brought to you by the folk- pop duo known simply as She & Him. They’ll be in town in support of their latest effort, Volume Two: a joyful bundle bursting with rhyming couplets and reasons to fall in love with Zooey Deschanel (if you haven’t already)
