Career Resource Centres offer answers elping students with questions about careers or studies? Staff from the College’s Career Resource Centres (CRC) in New Westminster and the Thomas Haney Centre remind you the sites can provide a lot of valuable information. For students planning to attend other institutions, the centres offer a comprehensive collection of university and college calendars from Canada and abroad. For students seeking a career, the CRC maintains profiles on careers and employers, including those linked to specific Douglas College programs. “To assist students finishing a diploma in Criminology, for example, we maintain files from agencies such as the RCMP, Vancouver Police or Canada Customs,” says New Westminster CRC Coordinator Valerie Gobeil. “Material can include information such as what can be expected in a typical day on the job, salary levels, and hiring statistics.” Detailed information on many Douglas College programs is available on audio tapes. Other CRC resources include self-help books (which can be borrowed), job-search material, videos, and government career-projection studies. The full index of CRC resources is accessible on Gold on the College’s computer network (contact Systems and Computing to register). The centres are primarily utilized by Douglas College students, but are also open to the public. Resources available at the two sites may vary.
