Selection Committee for New Faculty Where a Discipline Committee Does Not Exist The composition of the Selection Committee shall be determined _ by the full-time faculty members of the closest related discipline(s), the Principal or his designate and the Director within the parameters prescribed in Part 2 Item 10(A) (i). All decisions of the committee, including the selection of the chairperson, shall be by majority vote or consensus. Uncertainty as to the closest related discipline(s) in particular cases will be clarified by the process outlined for interpretation of the memorandums of agreement (Letter of Understanding approved 6 February, 1975). 2. Selection Committee for New Faculty Where a Discipline Committee Exists The composition of the Selection Committee shall be determined by the full-time faculty members of the Discipline Committee, the Principal or his designate and the Director within the parameters prescribed in Part 2 Item 10(A) (i). All decisions of the committee, including selection of the chairperson, are to be by majority vote or by consensus. 3. Selection of Convenor of Language Competency Since this position was advertised externally prior to the signing of Part 2 of the memorandum the method of selection and the composition of the committee shall be as provided in Part 2 Item 10(A). The successful candidate will be appointed Convenor of Language Competency for one year by the Director. If a new faculty member he/ she will be offered a two year probationary appointment as an Instructor in the English and Communications area in accordance with Part 1 Article XII. 4. Assignment of Instructor to more than Three Preparations Part 1 Article XIII.3 should be interpreted to read that no instructor shall be assigned without his/her consent to more than three different course preparations in one semester. While the norm is three or less course preparations per semester it is recognized that in some disciplines it may be advantageous to the instructor (s) and to the College to permit an instructor with his/her consent to teach more than 3 course preparations in any one semester. ; Continued on next page
