McKay, the head coach for the Canadian Senior Team, escorted eight wrestlers to Tehran, where they encountered Olympic-class athletes in front of 15,000 frenetic fans. The Canadian team performed well, coming in ninth from a field of 35. “Anything within the Top 10 in the world is an outstanding result,” says McKay. The coach was proud of all his wrestlers but received particularly strong performances from Sissouri Ghia, an Olympian from Montreal, who received the 10 half-nelsons a day; wrestling in Iran Bronze medal, and Daniel Igali, a former Douglas College student (Criminology) who is now studying at SFU. “Daniel placed fourth, and came really close to medaling, says McKay. After two wins, Igali met his match against a Ukrainian wrestler. After beating Georgia in a consolation round, Igali fought against an American for the bronze, losing 4-1 but coming in an impressive fourth. The pressure was high. “Iran is a hotbed of wrestling. The reception begins at 4pm in the upstairs cafeteria for those people with twenty or more years of service with the College. Following the reception, there will be a retirement dinner from 6pm. The Library is celebrating the Grand Opening of the Eletronic Library Facility, Wed, though the conditions were hostile, the hosts weren't. “We weren't sure what to expect, but we were really well-received and well taken care of.” It wasn’t McKay’s only exper- ience with international competition—he had wrestled for Canada in both the Los Angeles and Seoul Olympics Employees to Register in November to register for Winter. 2. Staff Changes David Chen has moved from temporary to regular as Student Life Coordinator and well as Angel Jenkins is who is now regular as a Student Life himself, and has been a professional coach since 1985. Raija White has decided to leave the College at the end of September. Raija worked in a number of departments, noteably Douglas Development and more recently at Centre 2000.
