Congratulations to Administration receptionist Sherry Chan, who recently became engaged and will be married this spring. Sherry and fiance Bryan Crowther will jet down to Las Vegas and plan to take their vows in one of the new mega-hotels, such as the Mirage or Treasure Island. Sherry plans to spend more time at theme parks than at the tables, and adds she isn’t sure if they’ll have time to visit the Liberace Museum. Born to run... With nine confirmed entrants to date, the Douglas College Library will be well represented at the Vancouver Sun Run on April 17. Runners will cover a 10-kilometre distance which begins at the Hotel Vancouver, heads down to Stanley Park and then ends at the Plaza of Nations. Lacing on shoes and sporting College colors on their custom t-shirts will be: Jean Cockburn, Virginia Chisholm, Penny Swanson, Teresa Kenkel, Eleanore Nucho, Lisa Baer, Catherine Doll, Helen Clarke and Patti Romanko. Assistant Registrar Brenda Walton and her husband Bob were two of the family-connection fans who were rooting for the College’s men’s basketball team as they earned a silver medal at CCAA nationals March 15-18 in Lethbridge. Brenda’s son, Scott was selected the Royals’ player-of-the-game in the final. In all, seven family members of Royals’ players made the trip to Alberta. Theatre kudos... Congrats to the Theatre and Stagecraft departments on the success of their recent production of Alice in Wonderland. With spectacular sets and costumes, the play attracted very popular response and several sold-out performances in the Performing Arts Theatre. Some of the faculty and staff contributing to the magic included: Cheryl Matheson (production supervisor), Heather Kent (production manager), Scott MacDonald (technical director), Brian Pratt (carpentry supervisor), Lyndia Stefiuk (costume supervisor) and Drew Young (production stage manager). The play also featured the talents of Douglas College students and Vancouver director Michael Fera, lighting director Gerald King costume/set designer Pear! Bellesen. The shows must go on... Just because Theatre’s Dorothy Jones and Music’s Henry Waack have retired, it certainly doesn’t mean they have stopped working. After staging a musical revue called Try To Remember last May, the duo are now staging the musical The Fantasticks from May 6-8 at the Performing Arts Theatre. The show will benefit the Performing Arts Scholarship Fund. Rossell presents awards... Just before her appointment as the new Director of the Thomas Haney Centre, Co-op Education Coordinator Marian Rossell presented special scholarship awards to Damaris Sargent and Erica Ikari.
