DOUGLAS COLLEGE EDUCATIONAL GOVERNANCE SYSTEM “THE COUNCIL" ROLE STATEMENT - GENERAL The Council is the central forum for educational discussion, standard setting and educational policy generation. ROLE STATEMENT - SPECIFIC The Council, within the limits of College policy, will: A. Provide an open forum for the broad debate and review of all educational issues. Bie Participate in long-range educational planning, and advise the President and Board on educational issues. Ge Make recommendations and decisions on matters of educational standards, policy and procedures. D. Give educational approval to new programs and courses, and to changes in existing programs and courses. Ee Encourage educational innovation. F. Support the implementation of activities to evaluate and improve the quality of education. G. Adjudicate appeals against recommendations and decisions of the Department Committees. RESPONSIBILITY The Council is responsible to the President, and through the President, to the College Board. The members exercise individual judgement in accord with College philosophy, on behalf of the College and the people it serves. APPEAL The Council's recommendations and decisions are subject to appeal to the President, and through the President, to the College Board.
