_ Nsw: Believe it or not, winter’s nearly over. Those flurries and icy temperatures were just a misstep on the march toward March, and spring. Blossoms were spotted on cherry trees in January, and the hours of daylight are inching toward a respectable number, which means soon you won’t be coming to work in the dark and going home in the dark. And, fora little more enlightenment, check the following bits of news from around the College. Thanks to Theatre... Theatre Instructor Chery! Matheson recently got a couple of thank-you letters from the B.C. Children’s Hospital. The Theatre Department donated season’s tickets to the College’s theatre productions, which were raffled at the 1995 Children’s Festival Brunch, which at last count raised over $23,000 toward the purchase of much-needed equipment in the hospital’s Special Care Nursery and the Child Protection Services Unit. Take the short way home... On the night before New Year’s Eve this past December, a fellow who lives in the apartment building just south of the College decided to take a short cut home through the campus...in his truck. He came off Royal Avenue and down the concrete steps from the fourth floor by the Continuing Education offices down to the patio by the reflecting pond. He waited there for a moment, but when the security guard went out to investigate, the fellow gunned his truck through the shrubs and launched it off the six-foot concrete wall down onto Lorne Street, outside the loading bay at Shipping & Receiving. His engine stalled with the impact, so he glided down the hill and turned onto Victoria Street. The security guard got not only the license number, but the whole license plate; it was torn off during the bumpy ride and left at the scene. Geoff’s in Systems... The position of Database Administrator/ Programmer in the Department of Systems & Computing has been filled by Geoff Campbell, who many people know as the former Systems Manager/Analyst. Mark’s matrimony... Manager of Computer Support Systems Mark Coumont will wed his significant other next September. It’s twins... Joyce Hunter in Financial Aid is the proud grandmother of twins Calvin Alexander and Thomas Spencer, born January 19. All are well, including mother and father Leah and Jeff. Jean’s jeans full 0’ cash... The Foundation’s December 60\40 Draw winner is the Bookstore’s Jean Easton. She put $814.80 (60%) into her pocket, while $543.20 (40%) went to student aid. Poosty i¢ Ain Whoever constructed this work of snow art outside the Modern Languages fieldbase abandoned the traditional top hat and carrot nose and came up with some sort of snow hog wearing what appears to be a Russian hat. The snow hog sure wasn’t Frosty, but January’s weather sure was. LONE A brand-new Canuck... Michael Knight became the new Systems Analyst in the Registrar’s Office on January 3, and became a Canadian citizen a couple of weeks later, on January 16. He hails from England, and also lived in Australia for some time. Officially, Betty Lou... Betty Lou Hayes is now Director of the Centre for Sport, Recreation and Wellness, the former Athletics & Intramurals Department. Oahu escape... Co-operative Education Assistant Susan Chong skipped most of January’s snow and cold by spending 12 days in Hawaii with her family. They went snorkeling, hiked Diamond Head, and just generally had a good time. Goodbye until March! I
