DOUCHAS COLLESE LIBRARY news items ® oct TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS Teachers of English tend to agree with producer Bob Aaron that "What's the Good Word", produced by BCTV for the CIV Net- work, is equal in entertainment and educational value. In any case, it's proven popular on both counts. Since the start of the series in 1971, it has not only enjoyed high ratings but has also garnered a good deal of praise for the part it has played in vocabulary development and the teaching of word relationships. Starting at 3.30 pem. Monday, February 18, "What's the Good Word" will hold its first Tournament of Champions, which will run each weekday until March 20. The tourney will match contestants who have previously been multiple-—game winners, a total of 45 teams. Many have won five games, none has had less than three wins. This means high-calibre competition that will make the show more entertaining, and more education- al than ever. UNDER-ICE LABORATORY A new frontier of underwater exploration will be featured on the Jacques Cousteau special at 7 pm. Friday, February 22, on BCTV. "Beneath the Frozen World" will take viewers under the Antarctic ice to discover how such warm-blooded creatures as whales and seals (including the amazing Waddell seal, which can dive for an hour to a depth of 1800 feet) manage to thrive despite the constant threat of ice entrapment.
