INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / JANUARY 17, 1989 Free Workshops For Women You’re a woman with some- thing on your mind, but you're not sure you have the right or the courage to speak up. If this is your situation prepare your- self at the College’s Women’s Centre. Douglas College counsellors offer a variety of free workshops to all women. The workshops cover topics such as interper- sonal communications and assertiveness skills, as well as self-esteem and confidence building. "These (introductory) workshops are directed at women of any age interested in personal development," says Women’s Centre co-ordinator Marian Exmann. "She may be involved in changing education- al or employment plans, or learning specific skills to help in making her own way more productively through society." Workshops also include con- cerns more specific to women students such as dealing with test anxiety and learning test preparation skills. And for women more generally -- workshops on stress and time management will be held. Pre-registration isn’t required for any of these upcoming workshops. For dates, times “and topics call the Women’s Centre at 520-5486. eT Courses of Interest to Women The Women’s Centre and Community Programs Division of Douglas College are pleased to offer the following non-credit courses for women in our community. Because we believe that women’s per- sonal, social and economic well-being are related, the courses offered this semester cover a range of interests -- from personal growth to workplace health and safety to employment creation. Assertiveness Training for Women Women often face particular barriers when they try to communi- cate their thoughts, feelings and needs. Whether at home, in the workplace or in community or public settings, women can benefit from learning to express themselves honestly and forthrightly without experiencing feelings of guilt or hostility. This course will teach par- ticipants assertiveness skills that emphasize positive ways of speaking and behaving that respect the rights of ourselves and others. Par- ticipants will have an opportunity to practice the skills they learn. I.D.#: H891-521-09B-201 Date: Weds.
