Barb Hill from Child, Family and Community Studies takes home $822 and student aid increases by $548. When the call went out for hampers for needy student families, the College community answered. “The response from the College community has been overwhelming,” says Patty Lewis, Financial Aid and Placement Supervisor in the Financial Aid Office. “We have been able to provide hampers to approximately 45 student families. Whole departments, four classes of Hotel and Restaurant Management students, a Coaching Diploma class, a Classroom and Community Support class, individual faculty and staff and the Douglas College Board and Administration all adopted families for Christmas. The students were overwhelmed and very grateful for the support. Some comments from students so far: ‘Your thoughtfulness and generosity has made all the difference in the world to our Christmas this year. Thank you allso very much!’ ‘The donation of a hamper could not have come at a better time, as we were the victims of a robbery in our home that occurred while we were sleeping just over a week ago. The wonderful gifts that you gave us have gone a long way in restoring my children’ faith in humanity as well as my own.....we will never forget your thoughtfulness. To each of you who took the time and consideration to help us have a better Christmas, we send you our best wishes for avery Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.’ Thank you for letting students know you care.” The College and the World: Reflections on Community Douglas College’s Professional Development Day, Wednesday February 13, is taking shape.
