Post-secondary day
opens doors to learning

Douglas College’s Academic Advisors are hosting a Post-
Secondary Day for local high school counsellors at the New
Westminster campus on Friday, January 25. Presentations will
be made to counsellors on admissions and programs from

various universities, colleges and institutes. These institutions

will also set up tables in the concourse, where they can be

accessed by Douglas College students.

Faculty are encouraged to give their students advance notice
of this day in case they would like to be able to talk face to
face with a recruiter or admissions advisor from SFU, UBC,
UNBC, UVic, BCIT or other visiting institution. Everyone is

welcome to attend the various displays in the concourse from

9Jam-12noon.

Any questions can be directed to Drena McCormack at

604-527-5147.

Briefly

First-time daddy

Aubie Anisef became a father for
the first time on November 26
when his wife Poupak gave birth
to a “beautiful baby boy,” Shaya
Harry Anisef. Aubie reports that
he “weighed 7 pounds 14 oz at
birth and mother and child are
now doing just fine.”
Congratulations!

by $548.

When the call went out for hampers for needy student families, the College community answered.

“The response from the College community has been overwhelming,” says Patty Lewis, Financial Aid and
Placement Supervisor in the Financial Aid Office. “We have been able to provide hampers to approximately
45 student families. Whole departments, four classes of Hotel and Restaurant Management students, a
Coaching Diploma class, a Classroom and Community Support class, individual faculty and staff and the
Douglas College Board and Administration all adopted families for Christmas. The students were
overwhelmed and very grateful for the support. Some comments from students so far:

‘Your thoughtfulness and generosity has made all the difference in the world to our Christmas this year. Thank you

allso very much!’

‘The donation of a hamper could not have come at a better time, as we were the victims of a robbery in our home
that occurred while we were sleeping just over a week ago. The wonderful gifts that you gave us have gone a long
way in restoring my children’ faith in humanity as well as my own.....we will never forget your thoughtfulness. To
each of you who took the time and consideration to help us have a better Christmas, we send you our best wishes for
avery Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.’

Thank you for letting students know you care.”
