INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / FEBRUARY 6, 1990 Why are educators in international development? There are many different approaches to international development and international education. A workshop to discuss and explore some of these models will be held at the British Columbia Institute of Technology on FEBRUARY 15 - 16. College board members, CEO’s and senior administrators are invited to attend. Different perspectives of international development will be presented and the following questions clarified: How can international involvement benefit your college or institute? What options exist for the small and larger institute? What does it mean to “internationalize your college/institute?” How can the ACCC help your institution to focus on specific areas of interest? Are your institution’s strengths marketable overseas? How can you capitalize on these strengths? How can you identify international opportunities? Nejat Gorica, facilitator of the workshop, has extensive international development experience. During his twenty years in the Canadian college system, he has held positions as International Student Advisor, Teaching Master and Counsellor. His early work, in the 1970s, around the Canadian ethnocultural programming resulted in the formation of councils and organizations to support the continuation of this program area. He is currently ACCC’s Regional Director for the Asia & Middle East Division. His responsibilities specifically apply to this region with project involvement in Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East, South Pacific and the India sub-continent.
