Opening Barbeque by Marcel Martin he David Lam barbeque took place on September 12 between four and seven o’clock. This event was held to announce the opening of the new college facility. The Douglas College Student Society and other volunteers: Jean Rickerby, Mandeep Bhuller, Diane Jilg, Bonny Shotropa, Kelli Ansell, Emmett McRobbie, Katrina Lennax, Colleen Jeffrey, Lou Rene Legge Rebecca Helps, Coley Mansfield, Shawn Large, Rhonda Lussier, Vance Barker, and Chris Blair were responsible for feeding the noisy mob. There was also a TV for all the World Cup, hockey-crazed individuals who chose to attend the Barbecue instead of lounging on a couch and screaming their patriotic lungs out at home. The menu included veggie burgers and traditional burgers, macaroni salad and coleslaw. To quench the thirst of the crowd the dispensing opticians offered beer, coolers, cider, and soda pop. The music played gave the gathering either a dance party nirvana or hell, depending on your point of view and musical tastes. On the whole, fun was had by anyone with a pulse and the volunteers were actually still smiling three hours into the festivities. Seki ae oe eee ae —_—: =, The Other Press September 17 1996. 9
