DEPARTMENT COMMITTEE ROLE STATEMENT - GENERAL The Department Committee is the forum for educational discussion and decision making related to the content and form of programs and courses within the department, as well as recommendation for College approval of courses and programs. ROLE STATEMENT - SPECIFIC A. Provide a forum for the debate and review of program/departmental educational issues. B. ‘Participate in long-range educational planning, and to advise the Director/Chair and Council on educational issues. C. Make recommendations and decisions on matters of program/depart- mental educational standards, policy and procedures. D. Give qualitative approval to new programs and courses, and to changes in existing programs and courses, and _ recommend implementation to the Director/Chair. E. Encourage and initiate educational innovation. tie Support and implement activities to evaluate and improve the quality of education. RESPONSIBILITY The Department Committee is responsible for making recommendations to the Council, and to the ODirector/Chair. The committee has direct access to the Council. APPEAL Recommendations and decisions of the Department Committee are subject to appeal to the Council, for application of College standards and policy.
