GUIDELINES FOR USERS GROUPS AND ADMINISTRATORS OF REFERENG@BGLAS COLLEGE ARCHIVES BUDGET DEVELOPMENT PHASE FURNISHINGS AND EQUIPMENT, NEW WESTMINSTER PERMANENT CAMPUS : The permanent campus will be ready for occupancy between July 1982 and January 1983. The square footage of the building will be five times the amount of space on the present New Westminster campus. Range and complexity of programs and general level of amenities will be accordingly enhanced. In order to have programs operational and all equipment im. place for a smooth start-up, new equipment and furnishings must be ordered during the preceding twelve months - August 1981 onward. In order to order equipment and supplies, we must secure budgetary approval from the Ministry of Education this Spring. Budgetary approval implies not only coming up with estimates of the total amount of money which we would like, but an ability to defend and justify "line by line" our requirements, together with an ability to demonstrate that we are making maximum use of existing equipment and furnishings. We intend to continue using the user group structure which has served us all so well and continue, as in the past, to base our decisions on counsel from those with most knowledge - the users themselves. The following statements are based on this principle. You will note that existing structures continue unchanged and that most of the work will be completed by the time of the formal split - thus ensuring that we have maintained continuity through the most critical phases of building development. GENERAL TASKS FOR THE PERIOD NOVEMBER 1980 - APRIL 1981 To assist interior designers, architects, and the Project Devel- opment Committee by developing a "Shopping list" of items for the new campus: (a) standard classroom, office and public furniture (b) new equipment for new programs (c) new equipment for enhanced and enlarged instructional fields (d) required equipment for existing instructional fields. THE "RULES OF THE GAME" FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF PLANNING (1) staff work, evaluation and recommendation to the Project Develop- ment Committee for all areas of the building will be the respon- sibility of the Furnishings and Equipment Sub-committee of the Project Development Committee; (2) the Furnishings and Equipment Sub-committee (F.E.S.) for each design block shall consist of: (i) the Administrator of Reference for that design block; (ii) Chairman of the Project Development Committee (Bill Day); (iii) Project Interior Designer (Sooz Klinkhamer); (iv) Staff Assistant/Secretary (Barbara Bessey) ; (v) Assistant Bursar - finance and purchasing policy (R. Lisson); (vi) Purchasing Agent (Mabel Endacott). (3) The Furnishings and Equipment Sub-committee will produce an initial staff document for every design block, incorporating all extant information regarding present holdings of furnishings and equipment and projected needs which in some cases have been communicated to the Project Development Committee by Users Groups. = Ote =
