College Briefs e ?® Support Staff Education Fund The Education Fund for the fiscal year April 1, 1992 to March 31, 1993 is now depleted. It's great that the fund is utilized to its full capacity, but it’s unfor- tunate that funding is not sufficient to cover all requests for the year. There were 54 applications, of which 2 were declined and 3 cancelled, making a total of 49 approved. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. One reminder: when requesting funding for which GST is applicable, it must be in- cluded in a tuition/books total. Also, it is essential that expense forms are sub- mitted as soon as possible. ?® Instructional Skills Workshop upcoming The Instructional Skills Workshop is an en- hancement activity for new and seasoned faculty. It’s a model that concentrates on lesson basics such as the writing of instruc- tional objectives, preparing lesson plans, designing pre- and post-assessment strategies, and conducting instructional sessions. The four-day workshop takes place on Jan. 4, 5, 7 & 8, 1993. For more information or to register, call Gillies Mal- narich at 5411. The registration deadline is Dec. 18. 2® Library sale Used books and records will be sold in the Library Dec. 8-10. Briefs continued on page 4 Halloween was dress-up time in the Early Childhood Education Centre. Some spaces are available for January, says Director Ursi Reynolds. Space available in D.C. daycare The Douglas College Early Childhood Education Centre has a few part-time and full-time spaces for children beginning in January. The licensed daycare is located in Room 2814 and serves children from ages three to five years. Operating weekdays from 7:30 am to 5:15 pm, the Centre features trained and experienced staff. “In the Centre, we do a lot of art and other activities and children even use a computer that was recently donated,” says Centre Director Ursi Reynolds. “We use the small gym in the College for movement activities and we also go on field trips to neighborhood parks and the Quay.” The daycare can accommodate children on a full-time basis, or provide services for two or three days per week. It remains closed during holidays when the College does not operate, and is closed through July and August. The Centre welcomes new children beginning on January 4, but space is limited and Reynolds advises parents to register as soon as possible. For more information, call 527-5480. & Did You Know?
