ee — Royals Clean Up By Josh Martin, Sports Editor amn, those Royals are hot. The Royals D Men’s Soccer team is on fire with yet another pair of wins on September 25" and 26", increasing their record to 4-0-0. That puts them at the number one position in Group A with 12 points and a plus/minus of 15. The Royals hosted back-to-back games at Cunnings Field with one on Saturday against the UBCO Heat and another on Sunday against the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack. The reigning Provincial Champs beat the Heat in a 4-1 effort, where Royals Sahil Sandhu and Reynold Stewart each had a pair of goals. However that wasn’t enough for the duo; they wanted more and so they went out and scored another pair each in Sunday’s match against the Wolfpack. New Westminster native, defensemen Dylan Myers added another goal, as did Lukas Domijan in a 6-1 blowout over Thompson Rivers University. Sandhu is getting a lot of hype in his rookie year in the BCCAA with the Royals, coming overseas from Europe where he played a season in Germany. He is an explosive threat and had an outstanding outing over the weekend with four goals and four assists. He is currently second in the league in scoring, behind only his teammate Stewart, who is first with three more goals. Having the top two scorers in the league on your team is a huge advantage this year and hopefully the team can continue to produce with more games to come. The Royals Women’s Soccer team saw some action on the 25" and 26" as well against UBCO and the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack. There was no score throughout the whole 90 minutes of play in either the Saturday or the Sunday game, resulting in a tie for both teams. The Royals picked up a point for each of the tied games, totalling two points at the end of the weekend which makes their current record 2-2-0. They are in third position in Group A, with eight points and a plus/minus of +5. Both the Men’s and Women’s Royals Soccer teams at Douglas College remain undefeated through the first four games of the season. This looks very promising, especially for the Men’s team who have four wins and are looking to repeat last season by becoming the Provincial champs once again. They have moved up a spot in the National Rankings and are now listed as number two overall, sitting behind the Algonquin Thunder.
