The Other Press 7 * re ae ae Co-ed fencing back at Douglas by Candice Lee Fencing has now returned to Douglas College after years of | disinterest. Ian McColloch, former international fencer, is currently trying to start up a new fencing club at Doug- las, which had previously discontinued due to lack of interest. McColloch teaches fencing weekly and encourages everyone to come out and try. “Just come out and have fun and fence,” says Mccolloch. “The main purpose is to try to hit opponents but not be hit." Fencing teaches good reflexes, relaxation, quick reaction and how to interpret your opponents movements. “Fencing is a fighting sport without body contact.” McColloch would like to see a fencing club run by students, There is no registration required to join. Just drop by Monday nights in room 1315 between 7-9:30pm. There is a small fee for joining which is to cover operational costs.
