DOUGLAS RUGBY TEAM DEMOLISHES
OKANAGAN

The Douglas College rugby team
continued to show good form over the
weekend defeating Okanagan College
in back to back matches on Friday
and Saturday. :

On Friday the Okanagan stand-
off using the wind at his back to
good advantage kicked effectively
and managed to contain the score to
9 - 6 in favour of Douglas. Douglas
scores were Kurby with a touchdown
and Dave Jagger with a conversion
and field goal.

Playing with the wind in the
second half Douglas really turned it
on and ran the score up to 28 - 9.
Douglas scores were Al Hamers, Mark
Andrews and Dave Jagger with touch-
downs while Dave Jagger kicked
another two converts and a drop
goal.

On Saturday it was all Douglas
as they pinned their opponents down
in their half for almost the entire
game and ran up 32 points. Jagger
once again was outstanding for
Douglas as were rookies Laurie Sparks,
Pat Benson, John Langley and Marvin
Boon. Douglas scores were Jagger,
George Boon and Dave Markowski with
one touchdown each, Marvin Boon with
2 touchdowns and Jagger with 3
converts, a field goal and a drop
goal. Douglas now tops the league
and takes on BCIT next Sunday.

After starting the season on a strong
note with 3 consecutive victories,
the Douglas College rugby team suffered
2 setbacks over the last 2
weekends, losing 10-6 to BCIT, and
12-7 to Capilano College, Against
BCIT, the Douglas forwards were
outweighed and outplayed by their
Opponents and BCIT deserved to win
this one. But Douglas was
unforunate to lose against Capilano
as they dominated all aspects
of the game but were turned back
on the goal line each time.
Capilano, on the other hand only
ventured into Douglas territory
on 4 or 5 occassions and on 4
occassions converted field goals,
Capilano now tops the league with
6 points followed by BCIT and
Douglas with 4 points followed by
Okanagan with 3 points and with
Malaspina bringing up the read with

On Sunday the newly formed Douglas
College Old Boys (Alumni) team
clobbered Richmond rugby club
22-4. Bill Mordell scored 2
touchdowns for Douglas, Phil and
Terry Sharpe one touchdown each

and Dave Jagger kicked 3 converts.
