GVO tickets help College athletes You can support the Douglas College golf team and save money by buying tickets early for the 1997 edition of the Greater Vancouver Open. As an official charity partner for the tournament, the College golf squad earns a 25 percent commission for each ticket package it sells. The 1997 PGA tour event will be held August 18-24 at Surrey’s Northview Golf and Country Club. Ticket packages cost $160 if purchased before January | and $190 after January 1. The package offers two fully transferable ground passes for the week, six tickets for a special Pro-Am tourney with NBA-NHL stars on August 18, six tickets for special events on August 19, plus parking pass and program. Golf fans may also consider the Clubhouse upgrades which offer special grandstand seats (limit of 1,000). Package cost is currently $270, going to $325 in the new year. Golf coach Gert Van Niekerk says the College sold about 40 ticket packages to last year’s inaugural GVO, but he would like to push that number over 100 to make his team eligible for special bonus packages. For more ticket information, contact Van Niekerk at local 5042 or 572-1160 (home). Presidential Search Committee Presidential Search Committee Chair Neal Nicholson reports that the search for anew Douglas College President is moving right along. The Committee—made up of Nicholson, Al Atkinson, Jean Cockburn, Des Dougan, Marion Greenwood, Katrina Lennax, Lynn Leavens, Wendy Liew, Terry McCann, Willda Noniewicz, Elizabeth Peerless, and David West—has met weekly since late October. “We've considered terms of reference and Presidential profile,” Nicholson says. “We will use a consultant to ensure the broadest. possible pool of candidates and to obtain extensive, objective reference checks. A request for proposals is out now; we expect to engage a consultant in December.” The Committee’s goal is to present recommendations to the Board for their March, 1997 meeting. “We're also beginning the task of determining the process we will use for pre- screening, short-listing and interviewing nominees,” Nicholson adds. ““We want to have that process set by mid-December as well.” Comments or guidance from the College community would be welcomed by any member of the Committee. Please contact any one of them on campus, or call Chair Neal Nicholson during office hours at 688-3799. Your Savings are In sight.
