Such fees may - or may not - be deemed appropriate by the participants, and their institu- tions, for professional development programs held in association with articulation meetings. The Academic Council must make this distinction because it is specifically required by the legislation [Sec. 47 (1) (b)] to establish articulation committees. The matter of pro- fessional development is not so identified as a responsibility of this Council. Professional development is an institutional responsibility and in the majority of institutions one of the terms of the collective agreement. The Academic Council has ensured that funds for articulation meeting purposes are provided to, and by, each institution for that specific function. Funding for professional development purposes is an institu- tional decision. Finally, may “I draw your attention to item 8 of the Terms of Reference in the Academic Council guidelines on Articulation Committees. The Council recognizes that for many articulation committees their meeting provides an opportunity for an assoc- iated professional development program, and in principle the Council is supportive of this. I hope this will clarify the distinction which must be made on this matter.
