As such, our aims are the promotion of academic and literary excellence in the field of journalism. As a member of Canadian University Press, and you may see the light. Remember, you don’t have to aspire to a career in journalism to get involved. We have a spot for you, be you deadly serious, or seriously dead. The first meeting of the 1988-89 papmshing year will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, the Other. Press upholds the CUP Statement. of Principles and will not publish any- thing of a racist, sexist, or homo- phobic nature. Now beginning our twelth pub- lishing year, the Other Press needs your help. We need a com- plete staff of September 8 in room 1602. Everyone is welcome. By everyone we mean registered Douglas College student. If you fall into that category and you have any sort of interest in working for the Other Press, then don’t hesitate to come down to room 1602 of the New Westminster campus at high noon. energetic stu- dents, and you could very well fit right in. _ As a member of the Other Press, you will have access to training in every facet of the newspaper — publishing field. The only thing holding you back is the amount of time you want to put into it. Other Press alumni have gone on to work as reporters with the Vancouver Sun; as professional photographers; as writers for prestigous entertainment maga- zines and as graphic artists. The sky’s the limit if you want a career in journalism. But even if you just want to have fun, the Other Press is the place for you, and we do have fun. So come down to the Other Press in the darkest corner of the college The purpose of the first meeting is to introduce everyone to everyone else and to find out who wants to do what. Almost every position is vacant and there is no great amount of knowledge or skills required to any of them. The most important requirement is common sense and the desire to participate in what may turn out to be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding things you’ve ever done. But if by some remote chance you don’t enjoy yourself there is no obligation to continue. So take a chance and come down to our first meeting. Bring your friends, family, neighbors, professor, girlfriend, boyfriend, best friend, dog, cat, budgie named Wilfred, tropical fish, aiternative recreational consumables, beer, elderberries, theories on the nature of the universe, more beer, Honda, sad stories, left-over pizza, ideas, turtleneck sweater that your grandmother gave you for Christmas 3 years ago and you haven't looked at since, tapes, some more beer would be nice, ideas for a new staff meeting ad would be keeners too, on second thought forget that sweater.. Photographic Co-ordinator NEORenNs Applicants must be members of the Other Publications Society and responsible individuals capable of working to a deadline. No experience necessary, just enthusiasm and an interest in the field. Nomination forms can be picked up from Room 1602 and must be signed by 10 members of the Other Publications Society. The Other Press also needs: cartoonists, re- | porters, layout staff, typesetters, shoulders to cry on, couriers and photographers. The Other Publications ~ Society Board of Directors Election The Other Publications Society hereby gives notice of the opening of nominations for the pos- itions of Member at Large (2) and Staff Repre- sentative (2). Members at Large: Eligibility requirements for Members at Large are fully paid Douglas College activity fees and regis- tered membership in the Other Publications Society. Members at Large will be elected in a campus- wide election to be held on Thursday, October ist, 1988. Statf Representatives: Staff Representatives must also be fully paid Douglas College students and be registered members of the Other Publications Society and, as well, be contributing members of the Other Press newspaper. Staff Representatives are elected by the staff of the Other Press newspaper at regular staff meet- ings. Successful candidates will serve on the Board of Directors of the Other Publications Society as voting members, responsible for attending meetings and administering the societys affairs. The term of office will be for one full year. For nomination forms and further information please come to Room 1602 (Royal Ave. campus). Nominations close at 12 noon, Thursday, September 19th, 1988.
