INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / APRIL 11, 1989 Career Fair a Success Twenty-eight diverse or- ganizations came to Douglas College recently to discuss career opportunities with stu- dents and alumni. The event was organized by the Douglas College Alumni Association. "Our goal was to help stu- dents and alumni develop their careers by bringing in potential employers from a wide range of companies," said Ted Jang, president of the Douglas Col- lege Alumni Association. "We succeeded in attracting participation from both the public and private sectors in such areas as health care, social services, the financial industry, the service sector, law enforce- ment, corrections, and manufacturing,” said Jang. "Next year we plan to attract even broader participation." Warren Nyack, president of the Douglas College Student Society noted, "students thought the Career Fair was fantastic and informative. A number of stu- dents were able to line up summer employment." The exhibitors manned their booths in the Concourse from 10:30 am. to 7:00 pm. and then retired to a wine and cheese so- cial with alumni. Mayor Betty Toporowski was a special guest at the reception. At the wine and cheese, ex- hibitors commented on "the high calibre of students" they met at the Career Fair. They were also impressed with the number of students holding part- time jobs while attending the College full-time. Exhibitors gathered lists of the names of students interested in working for their organizations for fur- ther follow-up. SAR EE RAE AS RR, Love Continued "We help couples see the way they behave and the way they are. Is this behaviour a reaction to, or a continuation of the pat- ters of the past?" The course also includes an overview of developing a realis- tic romance, predicting crises in the life cycle and dealing with sexuality. "There will be some private exercises couples can do together during the workshop. The course is not heavy. It is meant to be a fun learning ex- perience, and an opportunity for couples to enhance what they have." Those who have taken the Couples Workshop in the past include couples of all ages and at all stages, said Lees. "Some who have taken the course have a good relationship and want to keep it that way. Others have been hurting a bit, but are not at the stage for counselling, and others may not have spent a lot of time together and want to use this as a way to get to know and understand their relationship." A fun learning experience, and an opportunity for couples of all ages and at all stages to enhance what they have. As the workshop is an over- view on relationships, couples can pinpoint problem areas and pursue these areas in other in- depth courses, said Lees. The Couples Workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the New Westminster campus, and can be taken on Saturdays, April 15, May 6 or June 10. The fee is $60 per couple.
