Where Minds Meet for the young at heart Douglas College Board member Ann Kitching and ESL Coordinator Judy Dale are on a mission to build a community for, anda connection with, retirees and older adults still young at heart. Their program, Where Minds Meet, is run out of the Centre for Creative Aging at the David Lam Campus. Though Kitching and Dale have talked about starting a program for years, it was made possible early this year with a grant from the Union of BC Municipalities. Visiting a seniors community centre recently, Dale recalls an employee there told her one new retiree remarked, “I don’t want to do ‘senior things, but I want to do something.” Rather than running programs, Where Minds Meet will help set retirees and seniors up with like- minded people to explore their interests. For example, Where Minds Meet has a request from one gentleman who wants to find other musicians to form a quartet. The Community Music School is working with Where Minds Meet, to find a way to make this happen.
