Current Vancouver based designers have spent the last year working on clothing that is focuses on environmentally friendly materials and practises, and thanks to their contemporary twist on designer wear, Vancouver is known as the leading city for sustainable fashion in North America. Eco Fashion Week (EFW) takes place this week from September 28 — 30, featuring some of the most stunning, and environmentally friendly designer clothing from around the world. Thinking of hemp dresses and newspaper pants? Picture chic pieces with delicate fabrics and edgy lines; low backs, poufy skirts, and prime florals are a few features of the fashion show that are all made with natural fabrics. In preserving our atmosphere, modern designers involved in the eco-trend are conscious of the astounding damage done by the fabric industry ItFE ana SCYIE and the chemicals emitted into the atmosphere in using certain materials. The fashion show will highlight local and international designers as well as the focus on responsible and practical couture that’s good to our earth. Margarita Angelatos, who studied at Vancouver Community College for design, launched Red Jade; a contemporary clothing line that would suit any uptown trendsetter, with dark colors and hip-hugging fabrics, along with soft jerseys Angelatos calls “vegan cashmere”. Not surprisingly, Angelatos break through into the fashion industry started with yoga wear before she launched Red Jade; select pieces of her designs can be found in Vancouver at Planet Claire, and Hum.
