INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / August 6, 1991 FO " THE INSIDE ZONE by Carrillon ong time faculty member, Penny Priddy, is expecting... an election call anytime now. For those of you who don’t know, Prid- dy is a New Democrat candidate in Surrey —- up against none other than R-I-T-A Rita J is here to stay. So in a non-partisan way, from one colleague to another...best wishes. I guess you could say Penny has a “priddy” good chance of being a giant killer. And while we’re on the subject of politics, IMS manager Rob Linschoten was rear ended while on holidays. It was an Ontario driver, Hmmmmm! Could this be another NDP Ontario plot? IMS‘s Glen James is on a part time leave for six months. Congratulations go out to Library employee Susan Fleming who completed her bachelors de- gree this spring at Simon Fraser University. Susan majored in geog- raphy and minored in psychology. The college publicist Brad Barber also finished his Bachelor of Arts in communications at Simon Fraser University this spring. College bursar Peter Green- wood is heading south to Louisiana and won't be back until August 23. Terry Leonard will be filling his shoes. Business instructor Murray Les- lie has left for Portugal, while Technical Services’ Susan Schmidt has just returned from a fabulous overseas visit to Denmark. In the guess who is having a baby department? Publicist assis- tant Jane Muskens, Technical Services Charlotte Currie and former Library employee Jan Meyers. Congratulations! What was that? Sounded like an echo boom to me. Best wishes go out to Jacqueline Ticknor, Library orientation assis- tant who had a beautiful baby girl, Lena. CHANGES Diana Christie is a new academic advisor. Colleen Car- michael, formerly from the Vancouver School Board, is a new full time employee in Technical Services, along with Catherine Doll who has been given a per- manent half time position. PIO writer Jeff McDonald has gone on long term disability (get better soon) and is being replaced by ex-Province sports reporter and sometime movie critic Walter Melnyk. Birthday wishes go out to Wendy Waidson who is celebrat- ing the big four O. BOARD WATCHING. It’s not that other college boards in this province are bad, it is just that Douglas College has had the extraordinary luck of having some of the finest board members in the province serve on it. That’s why it is sad to see board member Richard Bell resign due to profes- sional and personal commitments. He has been a significant asset to the college in New Westminster as EWe FLAGH well as a leader in getting Douglas College into Coquitlam. His energy, fairness and common sense will be missed by the college community. Another person we will all miss is Beth Morris. She will be retiring on August 16th. She will be travell- ing the world, once she can decide between Thailand or Turkey. Best wishes! THE HEAT ISON Terry Leonard informs me that the concourse will get two new ad- ditions in the next few weeks. Just in time for the registration rush will be the addition of fans and then just in time for Christmas we can expect the addition of heaters. Does anyone know where the Japanese Bonzai Moles went? Last I heard they had escaped and were hanging out down in the Stage- craft Shop under the newly installed Jacuzzi. =i
