Julian Symons, the inter- nationally acclaimed British Biographer and detective fiction writer, will be join- ed by a number of well-known -seminars & workshops. Ali aspects of writing of bio- graphies, from research techniques to the biographers relationship to his publisher will be discussed. Douglas College & the Burnaby Arts Council are co-sponsoring the conference. They have planned the conference as a forum for writers who are either already writing a bio- graphy or who see it as a potential field for their writing. PLACE: Robson Square Media Center, March 27,28,29. COST: $65 (3 workshops) A descriptive brochure is available for this conference from Continuing- Edacation. biographers to conduct panels, Douglas gave the United Way Douglas College employees can pat themselves on the back for open- ing up their hearts and pocketbooks to the United Way in 1980. Douglas College exceeded their 1980 target of $2,500 by $312, a 150% increase over the amount given in 1979. "All your work for the past camp- = aign is greatly appreciated," United Way associated campaign director, ' Patrick Oswald, said in a letter to Reg Pridham. "Please accept a warm thank you from all of us associated with our 84 human care agencies...thanks to you, this United Way family can now better “+ gerve one in three of us living in the _ -« Lower Mainland," Oswald said. Oswald pointed out that per- sonnel manager, Leo Hungle's efforts _ were noted and his "dedication" was > "greatly appreciated." Douglas College's increase helped produce a 20% increase in the Post Secondary division. The average donation of a donor was $63.02, up from $48.35 in 1979.
