We've been publishing since 1976. The OtherPress is run as a non- hierarchical collective, which means that if anything goes wrong, none will take the blame. Expect us to pass the buck, The OP is published weekly during the fall and winter semesters and monthly [as a magazine] during the summer. When we manage to publish at all. In this case, we blame technology. We receive our funding from a student levy collected every semester at registration, and from local and national advertising revenue. But, if you really want it, we'll give you your money back. Please, don't ask. The Other Press is a member of the Canadian University Press (CUP), a cooperative of student newspapers from across Canada. We adhere to CUP’s Statement of Common Principles and Code of Ethics—not that we claim to understand them, we just stick by them. The Other Press reserves the right to choose what to publish, and what not to publish, but usually we print everything, unless it is racist, sexist or homophobic. If you have any quibbles with what we choose, maybe you should get your lazy butt down here and help. No, really. We can use the help. Coordinators Athletics ~ Hamish Knox sport@op.douglas.be.ca Coq. Report- ers of the OP should get their facts straight before criticiz- ing our Vice President. I voted for Massanio Chang because he didn’t make any unrealistic promises unlike his opponent Jack Shehaded (who was the one who promised us a bank machine.) The only promise that Massanio made to his students was that he would try his best to serve his students. What many people don't know (including the unin- formed OP reporter, Michael Cox) is that Massanio has been trying his best to get the students a bank machine. What many people also don't realize is that there is a lot of bureaucratic red tape to go through before the motion of getting an ATM can be passed. One of the major concerns with all the banks is that the David Lam campus is only open for two semesters which means that for four months out of the year, their bank machines will not be generating revenue for them. If you were a business person, would you offer David Lam a bank machine under these circumstances? I know that we need an ATM machine and like many other students, wished we did have one; however, I also realize that Massanio only has so much power to try and grant our wishes. The ques- tion of when we will get a bank machine is out of his control. Perhaps it is the banks we should be attacking or the top decision makers of the college, but not the person who has done so much for us already. the Other Press As for your (Michael Cox) concern about having to walk to the bank, be a little bit more prepared for classes. You know your class schedule ahead of time, get your money the night before! _ Aconcerned pissed off student DL VP responds I feel the comments made in the Jan. 20th edition of the Other Press were unjustified and untrue. It is not true that I forgot about my students. How can I ever forget? Everyone of them I have listened to and everyone of them I represent whole heartedly, without prejudice towards any suggestions that they have made. I have done everything to get an ATM machine in this campus, but as you know it takes two to tango. The banking institu- tions that I have approached have failed to respond to any of my questions or requests. The one promising prospect that we had of achieving a bank machine at David Lam was denied by Terry Leonard in New Westminster. So what can I do? I would be happy to entertain any suggestions that any of my students would have. Please forward all concerns to my office phone (527-5948) or address letters to myself and I promise to answer all suggestions as soon as I can. Massanio Chang VP David Lam Campus DCSS Compliments to Zahra Jamal on her article “Clinton, you will pay hard.” Despite the oddly worded headline Zahra Jamal has clearly and con- vincingly stated in her article what I have not had the words, if the sentiment, to OPinion “Clinton” say. She has done an excellent job of wading through the sea of spin surrounding the issue and has shed the light of truth on a shadowy issue. I look forward to future articles in this vein. William Tomkinson Ask Reverend Tom Dear Reverend Tom: If God were a tree, what kind of tree would (NPI) He be? A. Borealis Dear A. God would of course be part of the most beautiful type of trees on earth. He would be part of the Pinus Radiata forest. It is important to note that God is above all of us, and no mortal could ever be part of the same wonder- ful trees as God. Both men and women should know that while they can aspire to be, they can never be and that it is a sin to suffer Pinus envy. tion. This discalimer has been brought to you be the quasi-worried, prone-to-legal-angst, anally-retentive folk at the Other Press. @eeeeeeeceececeoeoeoeeceoeoeoseeeeeeeee 0280808 Dear Reverend Tom: I've seen many pictures of God, and He seems to have white skin the majority of the time, but also black skin some of the time. So which is it? Racially Motivated Dear Racial: Because God is all things to all men, theologians early in the century believed God was both black and white, male and female until it was found in the past twenty years that both Michael Jackson and Prince also fit this description. God is now believed to be Cindy Lauper. ' eeeeeeeceeooooooosaeseeeeeeeeoeeoeeeoeee The Other Press wel- comes letters of all sorts, types and agendas.
