Profile The Registrar’s Office - it’s one of the first places visited by someone planning to attend Douglas College and about the last they work with at graduation. In between, Registrar’s Office staff keep track of every applicant and student at Douglas College. Knowing how the process works can save time for College employees who contact the office for updates on applicant/student status or registration policies and procedures. This is the breakdown: - prospective applicants and applicants deal with the Registrar’s Clerk/ Receptionist - applicants are also served by Admissions Clerks and Data Entry Clerks - students (anyone accepted and registered in courses) are served by Student Records Clerks Here’s a closer look at the people who maintain the information on thousands of students and applicants. Trish Angus, Registrar Trish is responsible for planning and development of operational policies and procedures. She was responsible for acquisition of our new Student Information and Telephone Registration systems and will focus on keeping them up to date during the coming years. In addition, forthcoming Bill 22 will add new responsibilities to this position - namely, establishing rules and conducting elections for the Education Council and the College Board. Brenda Walton, Assistant Registrar Brenda is responsible for the day-to- day running of the office, including implementation of policies and procedures. Student petitions and major publications such as the college calendar and telephone registration instructions are included as part of her responsibilities. Barbara Larkman, Departmental Assistant Barbara provides clerical and administrative support to the Registrar and Assistant Registrar. Barbara coordinates all College Appeal hearings and provides general support to the Standing Committee on Admissions and Language Competency. She also coordinates distribution of course outlines to other institutions for transfer-credit articulation. Debbie Crowley, Senior Records Assistant Debbie is responsible for coordinating the smooth operation of Student Records. This includes the course schedule of offerings, student registration and end of semester grade processing and transcript generation. Debbie is also responsible for producing the final exam schedule, statistical reports and the assignment of student registration time slots. Laurie Smith, Systems Analyst Laurie is primarily responsible for the Telephone Registration System. She also serves as a troubleshooter for Student Information System problems and writing system programs. Laurie works closely with the Computing and Systems department in coordinating work load and work overlaps. Tannis Robinson, Admissions Coordinator Tannis coordinates operations of the Admissions group. She works closely with program directors, chairs and coordinators to ensure effective communication with the Registrar’s Office. She acts as a departmental resource person to the Standing 4 Registrar’s Office staff work with pe Committee on Admissions and Language Competency in addition to other ad hoc Admission related committees. Tannis is also the department liaison for day-to-day issues with PSABC (Post Secondary Application Service of B.C.) Leah Ponting, Graduation/Orientation Clerk Leah coordinates major events such as Graduation and new student Orientation. Leah is responsible for determining student eligibility to graduate. She currently assesses transfer credit and maintains the transfer guide. These duties will move to Student Records in the next fiscal year. Leah also produces the Important Dates to Remember bulletin each semester.
