Another special event, which benefits the
Douglas College Foundation, is a
performance by Tokyo’s Meiji University
Mandolin OB Club at the Massey Theatre
on March 17 at 8pm. For tickets or

The free Noon at New West music series
offers excerpts from Mozart’s darkest
opera, Don Giovanni, with Vancouver
Opera artists on March 3. The Vancouver
Chinese Music Ensemble appears March
17, while Douglas College music
scholarship winners perform March 31.
All shows run 12:30pm-1:30pm.

Other free concerts will feature the
Aeolian Winds, performing March 8, 2pm
in Room 3221, and the Yishe Beijing
Opera Troupe at noon, March 23 in the
Performing Arts Theatre.

Writer-In-Residence Joan MacLeod offers
a public reading at noon on March 3 in
Room 4241. The Literature Alive series
features Gary Geddes in a reading at 10am
on March 14 in Room 3343.4

Studies) take some common courses
together to increase professional/academic
mobility and understanding.

Laddering - designing a program which
both stands alone and allows students to
step into another related/advanced
program with previously earned credits
being recognized.

Seamless Curriculum - allows the
transition between programs and courses
to be as smooth as possible: may use
Laddering or Integrated Curriculum
principles and strives to recognize

Surrey weightlifter Satwinder Ghatarora hefts some heavy metal while CBC cameraper-
son Rick Smalley catches the muscle-straining action. Ghatarora, a 70 kg competitor, is
a member of the B.C. Weightlifting Association and regularly works out in the Douglas
College fitness room. On this occasion, he was taped for a segment of CBC’s On Your
Mark. The program analyzes skills and strategies used in different sports.

 

Gert van Niekerk spent his 50th
birthday on February 2 cleaning out
all those colorful balloons that had
somehow accumulated in his office.

Bobbie Boehm parties

hearty, but somebody cordoned

off her office during her 65 birthday
celebrations on February 4. Bobbie,
whose actual birthday is February 3,
later escaped for a get-together with
friends in the Douglas Room.
