ATTENTION ALL COLD MEMBERS OF THE COLLEGE COMMUNITY The recent cold temperatures have produced a nuuber of anomilies in the design and func- tioning of the heating systems in the fac- ility. It has been discovered that both mechanical penthouses are under negative pressure be- cause, at cool temperatures, the amount of fresh air supplied to the system is less than the amount of exhaust air removed from the buildings. Due to a construction deficiency we are un- able to effectively seal off the planned op- enings between the top of the concourse, on the south side, and the exterior space above the roof of the south building. This means that the negative pressure in the south mech- anical penthouse is pulling vast quantities of exterior air from the top of the concourse which, in turn, puts the concourse into a negative pressure situation. These problems are all being attacked concur- rently and will be solved completely within the next few weeks. In the meantime, how- ever, the following building spaces will be considerably cooler than desired. 1. The concourse - in particular, that area of the concourse in the immediate vicin- ity of the security desk, since the neg- ative pressure insiae the concourse is pulling cold air through and around the doors and end louvres. 2. Offices and classrooms in close proxim- ity to concourse entrances since, as these entrances are used, and the doors open, quantities of cold concourse air are flooding the building corridors. 3. All building spaces adjacent to exterior glazed walls since the negative pressure in the space is causing cold air infil- tration around the glass. It is almost pointless to attempt to examine problems with heating or ventilating of a specific nature, in specific areas, until the overall problems have been solved be- cause many of the specific problems, while MAD HATTER PAGE 2 —— nat { apparently unrelated, are in fact directly | connected to the major problem - that of negative pressurization. Please bear with us, we are all affected in one way or another.
