Amelia Douglas Gallery Green Links 97 - Creating an Ecocity Aug 21 to Sept 17 Open House: Sept 11, 4-8pm Bursary honors Diana Gunderson In Diana Gunderson’s memory, a bursary has been created at Douglas College. The bursary is in the early stages of accumulating funds to establish an endowment to generate financial awards for psychiatric nursing students in honor and recognition of Diana’ service to the college and to her profession. Diana taught at Douglas College for five years before dying suddenly in 1997. She is remembered for her humor, energy and dedication in working with her students. Further contributions to the fund are welcome. Donations are tax deductible and will be matched by the provincial government. For information contact the Douglas College Foundation at 527-5875. ™ Briefly Day receives Order of Canada Congratulations to former Douglas College President Bill Day, who was named to the Order of Canada in July. Bill was selected to receive the nation’s highest civilian honor for his role in starting community colleges in B.C. and his ongoing work in education. Nicholson named to board Douglas College Board Vice- chair Neal Nicholson has been named to the 1997-98 Executive Committee of the Advanced Education Council of B.C. The council is an advocacy group for post-secondary education composed of public colleges, institutes and university colleges. Surprise! Financial Services co-workers helped Roy Daykin celebrate his 40th birthday last month by converting Roy's office into a riot of color. Art Committee member Marty Sulek and "friend" prepare for the opening of Nine at the Amelia Douglas Gallery. The show by recent graduates of the University College of the Fraser Valley Fine Arts Program runs until August 20. Walter gets the shaft “T rarely think about getting stuck on elevators,” said Walter Melnyk of the CMO. But sure enough, the next time he rode the main shaft at the David Lam Campus, a fuse blew and the elevator stopped between storeys. Quick work by Security, Facilities and elevator company staff pulled Walter out after only 40 minutes. Repairs took several days and next time Walter took the stairs. Mark's a dad Congrats to Mark Coumont of Systems and Computing, whose wife Susan gave birth to baby boy Ethan in June. The youngest Coumont weighed in at 8 Ibs. 2 oz. Dan McDonald, Therapeutic Recreation instructor and DCFA bargaining committee representative, leaves Douglas College this fall for a position with Malaspina College. w Rose Wilson of the Foundation reports that total dollars raised since January towards student scholarships and bursaries now equal $3,216.80! Staff Changes The new Labour Relations Manager for Douglas College is Hugh Finnamore, who joins Personnel in late August. Congrats to Carla Elm, now permanent as a Computer Support Assistant with Systems & Computing and Maxine Madden, permanent Departmenal Assistant II with Centre 2000. At the David Lam Campus, Tina Perret shifts from Facilities to the College Foundation as-Alumini Association Officer. In New Westminster, Susan Greffard moves from Systems to CET as’ Distributed Learning Designer/ Trainer.
