College wordsmiths Susan McCaslin’s edition of the anthology Poetry and Spiritual Practice: Selections from Contemporary Canadian Poets is available in the College Bookstore at the New Westminster Campus or from Susan. Susan edited the anthology last year as part of her Educational Leave project. It was launched in Toronto on May 27 and at the College on June 4. The anthology combines selections of poetry with prose descriptions of spiritual practices the poets connect to their creative activity. Susan can be reached at 604-527-5855. Her daughter Carla gave birth toa little girl, Mia Angela Bevacqua, on July 9. Baby Mia On June 6, 2002, Douglas College hosted graduation ceremonies for more than 850 graduates in over 35 programs. Divided into three ceremonial sessions, this special day brought together hundreds of graduates, family members and friends for celebrations at the New Westminster Campus. Tina Perret of the Alumni Association, who provides the reception for graduates and their friends and families, says it wouldn't have been possible without the hard work of dedicated volunteers and employees. Tim's team practices for the gold Tim Frick of Sport Science reports that the Team Canada women’s wheelchair basketball team will be at the College’s New Westminster Campus on Aug 17, 18, 19 at the staging camp prior to leaving for the Gold Cup World Championships in Japan on Aug 20-Sep 2. The team will be defending the world title won in 1998. Psych update The Psychology department welcomes Dr. Maria Janicki, full-time faculty member and Sue Vincent, part-time lab technician. Lab techs make waves Chemistry lab technicians Paul B. Taylor and Scott Denham, along with their friend Brian Matson, won the Waves Sailing Regatta in June, Dragon Class ; divison, racing in the yacht Jumala. The regatta was the season’s premier racing event for English Bay and attracted sailors from all over North America. The Dragon is a 30-foot long international one design sloop and is sometimes referred to as the “formula one” class in sailboat racing. The Wright stuff Academic Advisor Craig Wright is eastward bound, leaving Douglas College for a one-year posting as Coordinator of International Student Programs at York University in Toronto.
