College’s partnership with Hungary continues emperger Kinga (left) and Szombathely Szilvia from the College of Commerce, Tourism and Catering in Hungary finished three-month work placements here at Douglas College in December. Semperger completed a marketing project in the College’s Communications & Marketing Office, while Szombathely worked on various projects in the College’s Alumni Association. Both students were the happy recipients of $1000 in award money from the International Education Department in December. Four students from Hungary have spent time here, while two Douglas College students have visited there. About 25 faculty and administrators have completed study tours and consulting contracts with Hungarian schools, while the College has hosted an equal number of Hungarian faculty and administrators. Further developments with Hungary include a letter of intent between the College’s Commerce and Business Department with the University of Miskolc to enter into a scholarly agreement to create exchanges for applied research and doctoral studies for faculty. As well, proposals are in the works to develop nursing and business distance education programs and psychiatric nursing programs with Hungarian institutions.
