Learning Centre Le: @., In memory of Christine elps students — in need : The Douglas College Learning Centre is a study in success. Established on a trial basis for the spring semester, the Centre has provided assis- tance in reading, writing and study skills to students referred by College faculty. Proposals are currently being formulated by Centre facilitator Julia Robinson and Acting Director of Student Services and Developmental Education Ted James to at- tempt to secure funding to continue operations. The Christine Young Award was presented to Early Childhood Education student Sarah Bachelor in March. The award was established in memory of Christine by her mother, Jean Hammer of the Library, and by friends of Christine in the ECE program, in which she was enroled at the time of her passing several years ago. We've had 45 referrals for reading and study skills and we've also given other students tutorial assistance with word processing," says Robinson. "One of the goals for the trial was to discover the needs of students @::: I think we've done that. If the project were to continue I’m sure the demand would grow as students and faculty Faculty and Human Resource Development Workshops become more aware of it."
