David Lam Elections, Voting, turn-out opcoll@siwash.be.ca All of the campaigning has, for the record anyway, ceased and the poles at David Lam are open as of Thursday, October 24 . The last ballet is slated to be cast towards the end of Wednesday, Oct. 30 and results as to who will be representing the students at David Lam should soon follow. As of Friday, Oct. 25 almost 10% of the voting population at David Lam has exercised their vote, shedding the thick apathetic skin which has marred the DC student body in the past. Officials are hopeful that the apparent increase in interest will help push those numbers closer to 25% by the time the poles close on Wednesday. Like Yoda with a guitar The Timeless One Neil Young at General Motors Place by I.B. Green Oh Mr. Young you’re the teacher of a lost generation. You’re the only man with enough strength to battle on. You old war torn veteran. Thank-you so much for your hard work. Thankyou for have the integrity to stand up for what you believe in. Thank-you for sticking around long enough to tell me, the child of a hippie child, that rock n’ roll will never die. My, my Mr. Young you’re lessons run deep. To what should have been a sold out show, Canadian poet and the World’s only certifiable rock God, Neil Young, took to the stage at General Motors Place on the October 22. Like Yoda with a guitar, Young dazzled in his timeless, grizzled old fashion before a crowd that could be described as nothing less than mesmerized. Addressing the crowd only twice Young made certain to mention that it was great to be back in Canada, Vancouver being the first date of his coast to coast Canadian tour. Young, probably the most seasoned and hardest working man in rock n’ roll today seems to have transcended all borders however and certainly the message he gave to his Canadian audience was hardly different to the one he gave to his American audience when he toured through out the states only weeks before. The major difference being that all the Canadian fans know where that place in North Ontario is. That a Man Young’s age can perform as he did is a modern miracle and proof that Molson Canadian has secrets long known by the few who have . sipped from the fabled fountain of youth. It would have been a pleasure to interview Young for DC but MCA execs work long hours and they are very difficult to get a hold of. Next time we hope?! Regardless the performance was absolutely amazing from set up to sound, nobody could have asked for or expected anything better. Shawl The fact that Hype only showed the lower end picture of the major music revolution that rocked the World at large during early nineteen nineties, made it a little hard to endure. That coming from a movie that lasted only 87 minutes. Certainly it’s great to see what was happening on a small scale in the Seattle music scene but the fact the picture did nothing to reflect the epic proportions of what felt throughout the course of that industries boom, a period which will forever ring through the ears of aging rock fans. Age old Nirvana material seemed to be the pinnacle of the film but was hardly enough to hold my attention or belief in it’s claim. This one will be lucky if it gets picked up for video production. For a good concert movie experi- ence of pick up either the classic Woodstock, or for something with a 90s feel The year the Punk broke. Watch for I.B.
